While Jared Leto did his best to revamp The Joker in Suicide Squad, the most memorable character from the film was easily Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn (and not because of her outfit, come on guys).
The Aussie actor fully embodied the sick, twisted persona of the former psychiatrist turned villain and when the movie was over, everyone was asking when we’d get to see more of her.
While we know that a Suicide Squad sequel is on the cards, we discovered two years ago that there was a spin-off in the works that involved Quinn.
Margot told Collider, “I started the idea of a girls ‘gang movie rated R, including Harley, because I thought,’ Harley needs friends. Harley likes to interact with people, so do not force her to make a self-contained movie.
“She must be with other people, it should be a gang of girls, I did not see enough gangs of girls on the screen, especially in the action space, so that was always part of it.
In the DC comics, Harley is friends with Catwoman and Poison Ivy, who appear together in a Gotham City Sirens series.
But it seems that Margot has other plans for her character.
The Oscar-nominated actor said it was more in line with the Birds of PreyTV series, which was released in 2002.
This included the likes of the huntress (aka Batman’s and Catwoman’s daughter), the Oracle (one of Batman’s apprentices) and Dinah Redmond, daughter of the Black Canary.
Robbie told Moviefone, “I know they were exploring Gotham City Sirens with David Ayer, and I know they were exploring a movie from Joker and Harley Quinn, and they were exploring doing something else.

“I wasn’t a part of those. I was focusing on this. I kept presenting it to the studio until they felt it was at a point where they were ready to do it. And now we’re all in.”
She has already assured Cathy Yan to direct the film and while she was not specifically looking for a woman to direct production, Robbie thought it was important to have more women in these types of hit movies.
“At the end of the day – a man, a woman – the best director gets the job and Cathy was the best director,” she told Collider.
There is no word on when this girls gang movie will be released, but it is fair to say that it will probably be amazing.
