Dozens of homes were destroyed by Hawaii’s Kilauea volcano on the state’s main island, with scientists claiming that lava spews more than 60 meters into the air.

Local authorities said the decimated homes were in the Leilani Estates Subdivision, where molten rock, toxic gas and steam burst through openings in the volcano’s soil. This vision was taken in the areas on May 6, 2018.

Hawaii Volcano Observatory spokeswoman Janet Babb said scientists knew 10 cracks had opened.
